What Is Upcycling - Senior Art Show in Brisbane California
Upcycling, the repurposing of discarded materials into esthetic forms, is the theme of this group show. The exhibit has 12 works that are equally divided into these categories: hand-made paper, collage and mixed media that have hand-made paper, collage and assemblage.
There are up to 12 art works on display at Brisbane City Hall’s Main Conference Room from Nov. 15 through Dec 30. From a San Francisco skyline made of paper pulp, a collage of a kitten in a bed of flowers made from magazine clippings, a relief map of California made from paper pulp and toy animals, a collage of paper pulp and shells from Brisbane Harbor and more, these works demonstrate how art can be made by upcycling materials such as paper, toys, paint, etc. Participating artists produced paper from newspapers and shredded office paper, applied dyes to the pulp and cast it into interesting forms. Many of the works have additional layers of paint, collage materials and found objects attached to the paper surface.

Linda Hagen - Ocean Floor

Ocean Floor
handmade paper and sea shells
Ocean Floor was inspired by a walk on Ocean Beach in San Francisco. As I walked I saw sand dollars and shells washed up on the beach. I had a small bag with me in which I collected some of the shells. The shells cried out to be combined with some handmade, hand dyed paper pulp. They were again given their resting place at the bottom of the sea.

When my daughter, Miranda was home for the summer we took her to Sausalito to the old Trident restaurant for lunch. We sat outside and admired the huge yacht with the helicopter on board and the beautiful City beyond. I did a quick sketch and then used handmade paper we made in Senior Art Class and acrylic paint to complete the painting.
